Dear "Sell Out!", I have to praise you guys, you guys are my GOD! I had been hoping there will be a crew of talented people to make some outstanding movie from Malaysia! You guys made it. I watched the show in Langkawi Cinema (Cineplex) and I have to tell you that this movie had some great moment on comedy, life, reality, and fantacy. It was a bit slow at the beginning but I know that was your point to show the down side of Rafflesia Pong (Jerrica Lai), but a bit too slow, but the points stated by the "director" were reflected on this movie, which is brilliant! The songs were a hit! Of course, "You are not my tye" has becomes my type!

I watched it on 9th May, the midnight show at Mid Valley. I can't stop laughing at every scene. I wonder the guy playing the Director's role is the real person in fact. How come someone like him stunning out such a great deal of humour? keep the faith and keep it up! I've also write my review in Chinese on my blog, wondering if you guys wanna get some feedback.

Hi Samantha, thanks for seeing the film! The DVD isn't out yet. In fact, there are no immediate plans for a DVD because I'm too caught up trying to get people to see the film in the first place, ha ha. The soundtrack CD is out in the shops. Our distributor tells me that it's definitely in Rock Corner and Speedy outlets in KL. Someone on Facebook says it's also in Victoria Music. I don't know if the CD has made its way to the outlets outside KL yet but I hope they will soon.

Hi J0hn L0w, thanks, man! I'm really happy you enjoyed the film. It seems some people react very violently to the film, recommending on their blogs that the film be thrown in a trunk and burnt! ha ha. I think they missed the irony in the film and thought that we are being pretentious. Still, it's kinda depressing to read such "reviews".

Hi Pau Loong, wow, what a surprise that you actually saw the film in Langkawi. When we saw the list of cinemas and it included one in Langkawi, we thought to ourselves: who would watch this film in Langkawi? And now, I'm really glad we have a screen there! Thanks, man, for seeing the film. By the way, the first couple of scenes are slow because we wanted the first part of the film to look like it was shot by some pretentious film director. If you watch carefully, the style and pacing of the film changes gradually. It starts off looking like a pretentious indie film and ends up looking like a soulless and equally pretentious commercial movie. We were trying to use film language to reflect the gradual selling out of "Yeo Joon Han" lah, ha ha.

Hi tienyang, yes!, we want to read your blog. Thanks for writing about the film! I'm a banana and cannot read Chinese but I will ask a friend to read to me, heh heh. (I can speak Mandarin and Cantonese, though.) The director in the film is not really me lah. You can see my real photo on this blog and on Facebook. I'm damn ugly one ha ha. It's a little hard to keep the faith at the moment because most Malaysians are still not giving us a chance. They're still watching Star Trek and Wolverine. It makes me wonder if it's worthwhile making films at all... but I'll try to be positive Thanks.

Hey Derek, we hang around the cinemas quite often, ha ha. Peter Davis sometimes brings his friends to see the film and has to see it with them. I've seen the film so many times that I cannot see it again, haha. Thanks for the encouragement. I hope people will still finance my films after this Eh, just call me joon han lah. Only Citibank calls me Mr Yeo when they're chasing me for credit card payment ha ha.

hi joon han. i watched sell out today and it was awesome. well done, my friend. i'm not sure whether i have interpreted the message correctly, but what i received is the fact that realistic society tends to kill hopes and dreams that are embedded in our hearts is absolutely true. even parents sometimes discourage their kids to pursue their dreams for the sake of better living in their own perspective. thank you for such a great movie. but in my opinion, the ending of your masterpiece was pretty hard to grasp for some people, including myself. hehe. looking forward for your next film. =)

Hi Joon Han. I just got back from SELL OUT and I'm having mixed feelings. The good sort. I laughed so hard even though it hurts inside. And when Rafflesia went "I broke your heart, I made you sad..", I felt guilty on the charge of smothering my inner child. This is the first time I've walked away from a movie fighting a sea of raging emotions. Thank you for making this movie happen. An unpretentious piece of work which reaches out to the deep crevices of the heart. Nooks that I didn't even realise existed.

What can I say? Keep up the brilliant work. I'm looking forward to your future master pieces.

Excellent Movie. I just watched it today and I have to tell you this film is something different and unique. And the songs and lyrics were awesome. Your cast were excellent. May I know where can I get the soundtrack from? Anyway-it's a brilliant movie and it is a role model to every film producers out there. I saw Sell Out twice, on the thursday it opened and that same sunday (with dear mum of course), and later read its reviews and visited its facebook site.. In honesty I didn't notice the cinematographic nuances nor the circular allusions at the end, and I didn't initially grasp the romance nor the plot conclusion. There are many breaks in the narrative as the film thrashes against the accepted bearings of modern malaysian society, and alas, this is likely where the film's critics take umbrage.

For me, not since Kopitiam theatrically burst onto (and quickly fizzled off) our televisions has the industry spoken such worlds about my life as a Malaysian, asking questions I don't ask and breaking assumptions I shouldn't assume, in a film whose wide-angle is an engaging change from the focus characteristic of regional productions, such as those by your director's contemporary, Jack Neo. This is a thinker's comedy, and I loved the way you hid an intelligent film under a silly one.

I write here because I cannot stand facebook, but more because I wanted to say that I think Malaysia needed your film, and that I hope you will still find success with Sell Out, even if it has to come from beyond our shores. Joon Han, thank goodness your dreamer won. Well done!

When is the dvd going out to market? I stay in Johor Bahru, but I can't get the movie in local cinemas.. Thus, not in Singapore too.. I get to know this movie thru AsiaMedia when I am in the bus (maybe I was too late to know the movies was release earlier). The trailer was hilarious. More publicities can be done so that people are aware of the movies. I know alot of Malaysian who work in Singapore (including myself) will love the movie.
I think it will be a good publicity if the movie can be shown in cinemas or by original DVD release thru our neigboring countries.. The concept is almost like "Money Not Enough - Local Singapore Movie that has been published to neigboring countries like Malaysia and Indonesia"
I hope the DVD will release soon, so I could buy it!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for taking the time to tell us how you feel about Sell Out! And of course, thanks for going to see it in the cinemas, in the first place. I read every one of your comments and I appreciate them very much. They keep us going, really. I guess you must know it's one hell of a rollercoaster ride making a film. We've had more than a fair share of bad luck, backbiting and sabotages, ha ha, but when we hear that you "get" the film, we feel it's all worthwhile.

Although I'm the guy who answers comments on this blog, I would like say that I didn't make Sell Out! alone. Everyone who worked on it not only contributed his/her particular skills, time and experience to the film but also provided invaluable mental and emotional support during the filmmaking process. An especially important partner-in-crime is Eric Yeong, our Director of Photography. I asked Eric to do some really unconventional photography on this film, some of which might make him look like a bad photographer, ha ha, but he was with me all the way. Sometimes, when I got discouraged or tired, he would also give me the push I needed to carry on, usually by just saying: "Eh, come on lah! One more!" ha ha.

Then there's BooM, our sound editing/mixing engineer over in Bangkok. If I spent the most time working on Sell Out!, BooM is definitely 2nd on the list, ha ha. Always ready and willing to make the film better, BooM would accommodate my every request and revision, often suggesting even more himself! It's too bad that not all our cinemas are able to play back our sound mix in its original glory: there are so many tiny audio details that help to complete onscreen picture that do not survive some of our cinemas' crackling speakers that play back below standard Dolby level.

These are just some of the very many important Sell Out! people you don't meet at our premieres or meet-the-cast sessions. Others include Ram (our sound recordist; also plays the Exorcist!), James Wong (our script supervisor who does almost anything else I ask him to), Jackie Urban Poh (our Production Manager who was forced to take over Line Producer duties as well) and Kareem, our 1st and only AD.

hi dominic & johnny sew, the soundtrack CD is already out there in the shops. Could you please try checking out Rock Corner and Speedy outlets? I'm very sure Rock Corner in MidValley and Gardens, and Speedy in Pavilion have it. I have no idea how many outlets outside KL have it. If you really still can't find it, could you please drop me an email? Thanks!

Hung Chye, thanks for seeing the film and writing about it. With all due respect, I think Mr SB Toh's review is, to use a euphemism, misguided, ha ha. But I don't want to say more because then I will be labelled defensive

Kevin Lau, Sell Out! had been showing in Singapore over the last 4 weeks (2 weeks sneak previews and 2 weeks official run). But I think it's finally ended. It was also showing at Cathay JB but I think that's also over. Let's hope the DVD will be out soon! Thanks, man, for your support.

Hey. Maybe Malaysia did but keep aware that:

1) The PG-18 rating at once excludes the schooling population.
2) The month of may more or less strands half the college and university set - who are most likely to appreciate the energy and experimentation of the film - to exams and semesters that follow foreign calendars.
3) Thin publicity for the film kept the general public (and admittedly myself) generally unaware of its release.

If it serves any small solace, I caught Sell Out again on its last tuesday: some friends made it back for the summer in time; and rare is the film that is at once intricate enough to reveal different perspectives yet audacious enough to remain intriguing on its third viewing. Ticket receipts are only one way to measure a film. You and your team should be proud.

Hello from California! I saw your film in 2008 at the UC Davis Asian American Film festival and I thought it was fantastic. It was the best film shown in the 3-day festival! When you do decide to distribute Sell Out! in DVD please make it available for people to purchase internationally. Even if you feel you have not done as well in your home country Sell Out! has fans worldwide!
